Desmond Ong Li Siong

Vice President, Operations & Technology, Jurong Port

Desmond joined Jurong Port (JP) in 2014 and currently heads both the Projects & Technology and Digital Operations departments. As Vice President, he leads the teams in the research, piloting, adoption of innovative and efficient solutions in JP's digitalisation effort and its strategic move towards becoming the Next Generation Multipurpose Port. Prior to his current role, he helmed various key portfolios within JP, including Head of Lighter Terminals and Operations Central Planning Office in the Operations Division. Under his leadership, Jurong Port has successfully implemented waterfront transformation efforts such as the stevedore workforce pool, transform operator model for general and breakbulk cargo, and various digital and mechanisation technology adoptions in JP.

He has more than 12 years of experience in maritime shipping and logistics where he held multiple roles from ship management, network planning to business development in shipping lines. Desmond holds a Bachelor of Business Management Degree majoring in Finance and Management from Singapore Management University.

Chief Technology Officer, Singapore Sports Hub

Michael Henry was appointed Chief Technology Officer at Singapore Sports Hub in 2020. Recognised as a global thought leader in Digital Transformation and the Future of Work, Michael is known for actively driving change in areas such as Experience Driven Transformation, Cognitive Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Workforce Strategy and Customer Experience.

Prior to joining Singapore Sports Hub, Michael was the Head of Digital Experience for BHP, a leading global resources company where he was responsible for the Mobility, Application Development, Collaboration, Content Management and User Experience teams worldwide.

Michael is the Vice Chair of the Digital and Cyber Industry Group at the Australian Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) and is an active member of the startup community providing mentoring in startup ecosystems in Australia, Singapore and Indonesia. 

In 2021, Michael was admitted to the Forbes Technology Council as recognition for his deep technical knowledge, diverse industry experience and wider contributions within the Technology sector.

Alvin Tan Jia Wei

Senior Manager, WSH Technology, WSHI

Alvin is Senior Manager (WSH Technology) at the Workplace Safety and Health Institute (WSHI). Before joining the Institute, he has over 10 years of experience, spanning over commercial ship repair and retrofitting, work pass processing and operationalisation of work pass policy changes. 

He is currently focusing on driving industry adoption of WSH technology solutions, focusing on Construction and Facilities Management sectors. In the past year, he has worked with government agencies, industry associations, Institutes of Higher Learning and technology vendors to develop and promulgate WSH technologies at different levels of technology readiness to improve WSH, incorporate WSH in the Industry Digital Plans, as well as identifying and raising awareness of practical WSH tech solutions for the industry.

The Workplace Safety and Health Institute (WSHI) is part of the Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSHD) in Ministry of Manpower (MOM). It was set up in April 2011 to provide insights to chart new grounds for WSH excellence and innovation. This is done through identifying WSH issues through data, developing industry WSH assessment tools, and improving WSH through technology.
